Time has flown since my last blog! I have been busy along with the rest of the TU living/The Modern Nestling (TMN) staff, working on spreading the word about TMN and planning some great blog posts for you! Speaking of great...
This extremely quick and simple to prepare dessert recipe is a real crowd pleaser. It is made in a 9”x13” pan with five ingredients and takes less than 10 minutes to prepare—told you it was quick and simple! I call them Magic Bars.
The original Magic Cookie Bar recipe could be found on labels of Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk. Lately, I haven’t seen it on the condensed milk label, so I found it for you at allrecipes.com. Working from the original recipe my family and I have made small changes, these changes have shortened prep time and made it a one pan recipe—fewer dishes to wash.
- ½ C Margarine or butter
- 1½ C Graham cracker crumbs
- 1 C Nuts (I don't include due to family preference)
- 1 C Semi-sweet chocolate bits
- 1⅓ C Shredded sweetened coconut
- 1-14oz can of Sweetened condensed milk
Heat oven to 350°F.
In a 9”X13” pan slice the butter into 6-8 pieces. Place the pan into the pre-heating oven to melt the butter. Warning: the butter will melt very quickly!
Sprinkle the graham cracker crumbs over the melted butter. The crumbs will absorb the butter. Try to achieve a symmetric layer of crumbs.
Layer the semi-sweet chocolate bits over the graham cracker crumbs. There will be graham cracker crumbs showing between the chocolate bits.
Layer the coconut on top of the chocolate bits.
Pour the sweetened condensed milk over all of the above layers*.
Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown. The edges will be bubbly and a darker brown than the center.
Remove from oven and cool on a baking rack. Cut when just warm to the touch.
*The sweetened condensed milk will spread as it heats during baking.
I always receive compliments on these Magic Bars! In the past I have always said, “Thank you they are very simple to make”, but from now on I will only be saying, “Thank you, you can find the recipe on my blog at TUliving.com”—with a big smile on my face!
