Knock out roses for a punch of color!!

I treated myself to a little flower therapy over the weekend! It was wonderful to walk around looking at the many hanging pots of annuals—lots of red, white, and blue-ish for Memorial day! I was mostly interested in the perennials. There were sooo many great plants to choose from, but I used restraint and only bought two beautiful Knock Out Roses.

I chose two different varieties: Pink Double Knock Out (Rosa ‘Radtkopink’) which will have bubble gum pink double blossoms, and Double Knock Out (Rosa ‘Radtko’) with double cherry red flowers. I like the double blossom varieties for their fullness and shape.

I’ve been toying with the idea of adding roses to my garden for a few years, and these are suppose to be just about foolproof. According to everything I have read, Knock Out roses are easy to grow in full sun or partial shade and once established require little maintenance—deadheading is optional. They bloom from spring into the fall providing lasting color in the garden.*

I purchased my roses at BJ’s, a warehouse store that has great prices on plants during the spring and summer. My roses came in two gallon pots and they were only $16.99 each—across the street at Wal-Mart the one gallon pots of Knock Outs were $11.99. I love when I find a bargain!

I will be planting these after Memorial Day weekend because I have a VERY important and busy holiday weekend. I will be traveling to NY for my youngest daughter's college graduation ceremony! The whole family will be together: grandparents, boyfriends, and siblings! The plan is to celebrate and relax!!!

I wish you a fun, safe, and sunny Memorial Day weekend! Take the time to enjoy whatever you’re doing and whoever you’re with!
